why is our flax-granola so expensive?

Is anyone out there interested in that?

Because our flax granola is not at all about the recipe which is very simple, very basic - nothing we use is hard to find or esoteric (well, okay, fresh tamarind is a bit out there). But mainly, this granola we make is all about the baking technique.

And if you want to understand at the most basic level what is required to make granola out of flax all you have to do is bring together equal amounts of water and flax seed in a bowl and watch the flax turn all gloppy and, eventually, turn into a thick, glutunous mass. Not too appealing.

So how do get that to look and chew like, well... like granola?

Okay. We'll tell you. We absolutely want to share that information so that you, the flax-granola eater, can make it home. In your oven. With your very own spatula.

But just remember, if you decide it's too much bother, too much standing in front of an oven, we are very happy to make it for you (at the ridiculously high price we charge). But also bear in mind that the more people who buy our granola will mean the bigger ovens we can buy and all the other things we can eventually do that will help us bring our price down to the point where you might actually find it on that really high shelf in the health food aisle. Promise.

And now the recipe...

Well, were is it?

Next post. I promise. Here's the thing. We make our granola in a large kitchen with big bins and everything is measured by weight and we use commercial convection ovens. You, at home, will want to use bowls and cups and things you already have on hand and you're not going to go out and buy a convection oven because it says to use one in the recipe. Obviously. So, we worked with one of our customers, a very nice, incredibly patient young woman in Minnesota who wrote us one day and said, hey, your granola is ridiculously expensive, tell me how to make it at home. And we did. And she took photos and notes and used a regular oven and a measuring cup and we will use her information to tell you how to make our granola in our very next post. To be posted in the next few days.
